On July 12, 2024, our team, led by Dr. Rogelio González, acquired a 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (Lot # T149 / VIN: 1J4GS5879KP101906) at a Mecum auction. The vehicle was described as being in good condition, with no mention of significant defects. However, upon receiving the vehicle, we discovered that the description did not match the reality.

Undisclosed Issues with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Despite the description provided, the Jeep arrived with several problems, including:

• Undisclosed exterior damage: The vehicle has multiple dents that were neither visible in the photos nor mentioned in the listing.

• Deteriorated wood decals: The iconic wood grain trim is rusted and peeling, indicating poor maintenance.

• Serious mechanical issues: An inspection revealed significant electrical failures, defective locks, and a non-functioning air conditioning system.

These issues suggest that Mecum Auctions either failed to properly inspect the vehicle or deliberately withheld crucial information about its condition.

This experience should serve as a warning to potential buyers: while auctions may seem like an exciting way to acquire rare vehicles, it is vital to approach them with caution. Insist on thorough pre-purchase inspections and be wary of any claims that seem too good to be true.
